Types of skin
Broadly classified, skin can be oily, dry, normal and combination of any two factors.
How to know your actual skin type.
Before consulting a dermatologist, try the following method at home, which may help you determine your skin type.
1)Wash your face with your regular facewash and pat it dry.
2)Leave your skin as it is for an hour, without applying any sort of cream/formula on it.
3)After an hour or two you can identify your skin type by the following characteristics. You have,
a)OILY SKIN, if your face has shiny appearance, enlarged pores and production of excess sebum in the T-zone(forehead and nose area) and cheek area.
b) DRY SKIN, if your skin is dull, itchy, rough and has white flaky patches with a feeling of tightness around the cheek.
c) COMBINATION SKIN, if you have enlarged pores on the nose and dry cheeks. It might be OILY-COMBINATION when T-zone is oily but cheeks are normal or DRY-COMBINATION if the cheeks are extremely dry and the T-zone may be normal/oily.
d) NORMAL SKIN, if there are no extreme changes in the skin and it has normal moisture and color with dewy appearance.
***In few special cases, you can observe extra changes in your skin.
*DEHYDRATED SKIN- This is another variant of dry skin with dry appearance, but with excess sebum production. It should not be mistaken as oily skin.
*ACNE PRONE SKIN- It can be combination or oily skin which is prone to acne. Acne can be caused due to various number of reasons.
*SENSITIVE SKIN- It has high reactivity towards many external factors which leads to redness, itchy sensation, dryness and acne.
